  • *Two weeks later*
  • ‘You’ve been doing well these past two weeks Misun,’ Captain Sejin said as he, the chief and myself met up in the Chief’s office for a short brief on how things are going.
  • ‘We really heard good things about the team. You’ve been doing great, especially as a team,’ Captain Sejin said.
  • ‘We have. We’ve gotten used to how we work together as individuals and as a team. We all have our roles but we help each other out,’ I explained.
  • ‘Good. Listen, I want your opinion on something,’ the Chief began, as he shifted on his chair.
  • ‘Tell me. You know I’m all ears for everything you say Chief,’ I said with a smile.
  • ‘I was thinking of expanding Bangtan, but not by bringing other people in, but rather bring in some newbies that your team could train,’ he explained.
  • ‘That sounds interesting. We could use some extra hands and it would be nice to train a group of recruits,’ I said.
  • ‘There are five of them. The Choi brothers work mostly on forensics and medical examinations while Huening and Kang are more into the tech and research,’ Captain Sejin explained.
  • ‘Sounds perfect. I’ll run it with the team and let you know what they think as well. I don’t make these decisions on my own after all,’ I said.
  • ‘True indeed. I think these five have good potential and would be a good addition to the team. They’ll mostly work from here as well, should Bangtan accept,’ the Chief said.
  • ‘I’ll make sure to let them know tonight,’ I said.
  • ‘How have you found the living arrangements?’ the Chief suddenly asked, changing topics.
  • ‘Pretty amazing. It does help that we’re all in the same building as well. We’ve managed to meet everyone last time and we’re actually having a sort of get together on the roof tonight,’ I said.
  • ‘Ahh nice, enjoy your time then Misun. It’s good to wind down sometimes and not always work,’ Captain Sejin said, forcing me to raise my eyebrow at him. ‘Don’t look too surprised. Your reputation of being a hard worker and sometimes overworking precedes you,’ he added.
  • ‘I do what’s necessary to be done Cap,’ I said, causing him to frown. ‘With that being said, are we finished because I promised them I’ll go buy a cake for tonight,’ I said laughing.
  • They both laughed as they nodded. ‘You’re free to go Misun and enjoy tonight,’ the Chief said. I stood up and gave them a small bow before I left.
  • I hurried towards the car and hopped in. I switched on the stereo and let the music play as I drove towards the convenience store. Today, had been a pretty good day since we managed to close off another case.
  • I smiled contently as I pulled in front of the convenience store. I hopped out of my car and grabbed my wallet. I hurried inside the convenience store and smiled at the shop keeper.
  • ‘Hello Ahjussi,’ I said as he gave me a warm smile. ‘I’m here to look for a cake,’ I said.
  • ‘We have some which aren’t frozen in the fridge at the back of the store,’ he said as I nodded.
  • ‘I’ll go take a look,’ I said as I hurried towards the back. I let out a happy sigh as I saw all the variety there was – chocolate, red velvet, rainbow, lemon cheesecake. ‘Ahh so many choices,’ I whispered to myself.
  • Suddenly, I heard the door bells chiming loudly which attracted my attention. Just as I looked, I saw a young man entering the store while he wielded a knife and shouted at the storekeeper.
  • ‘YAH! Give me all your money old man!’ he yelled. I frowned quietly as I put my head down. All I wanted was just one night off.
  • I took a step back as I hid behind the shelf. I took a deep breath as I quietly made my way towards the young man. I did not want to use my gun since he only had a knife, but that didn’t mean I could be careless.
  • ‘HURRY UP!’ he yelled at Ahjussi who trembled as he tried to collect the money. His hands were shaking and he looked like he was about to cry.
  • I took a step forward, out from behind the shelf, forcing the young man to look at me. His eyes widened as he waved his knife in front of me.
  • ‘Who the hell are you?’ he yelled but I sighed. I pulled my jacket away, revealing my badge. ‘You’re a cop!’ he screamed.
  • ‘I am. Listen to me, put the knife down. We don’t want anyone to get hurt. Let’s settle this calmly,’ I said but he shook his head.
  • ‘No! Go to hell!’ he said as he began to come closer. I rolled my eyes as he came to hit me with the knife. I used my arm to block and my other one to punch him in the stomach. He groaned slightly as I grabbed his hand and twisted it, forcing him to drop the knife on the ground. It clattered noisily but it seemed to panic him as his hand flew to my jaw.
  • I stumbled backwards but quickly regained my footing. I blocked his next punch and instead grabbed his arm. I used my knee to hit him in his back, forcing him down to one knee.
  • I grabbed his other arm as I pulled both of them back, forcing him to go down on two legs. I quickly grabbed my handcuffs from my back pocket.
  • ‘You’re under arrest for attempted robbery and carrying of a weapon and assaulting a member of the law enforcement. You have the right to remain silent. Anything you say can and will be used against you in a court of law. You have the right to an attorney. If you cannot afford an attorney, one will be provided for you. Do you understand the rights I have just read to you?’ I asked as I said the famous Miranda rights.
  • He groaned, but nodded while I sighed. I took out my phone as I quickly dialled Captain Sejin. It rang for a few times before he finally answered.
  • ‘Misun, is everything okay?’ he asked, somewhat sounding worried.
  • ‘I’m fine. I was out buying that cake when I intercepted a robbery. I have the perp handcuffed. Can you send someone to come pick him up and bring him to the station?’ I asked, just to hear him sigh.
  • ‘I thought you had an off night Misun,’ he commented.
  • ‘I thought so too,’ I replied, unable to hide the small smile on my face.
  • ‘Okay, I’ll send someone to you asap. Send me your location,’ he said.
  • ‘Thanks,’ I replied before I hung up. I quickly sent him the location before I turned to the thief. ‘You really made a mistake trying to rob my favourite cake store,’ I said.
  • We waited for a few minutes before two officers finally showed up. I gave them the details and watched as he was dragged away in the police car. I turned to the Ahjussi who was sitting down on the stool.
  • ‘Are you okay Ahjussi?’ I asked as he nodded. ‘I probably should get going. My friends are waiting for me,’ I said as I recalled Jungkook’s message earlier.
  • ‘Of course. Don’t forget to take one of the cakes. It’s on the house,’ he said with a wink.
  • ‘Ahjussi, I can’t. It wouldn’t be right,’ I said but he quickly stood up and shook his head while he grabbed my arms.
  • ‘It won’t be right to refuse a present,’ he said. ‘Besides, you saved my store and maybe my life. The least thing I can do is give you a cake to share with your friends,’ he said while I nodded.
  • ‘Okay then. I’ll take a chocolate one then,’ I said as he nodded.
  • ‘Coming right up,’ he replied as he hurried towards the refrigerator at the back. I felt my phone buzz and I took it out to see another message from Jungkook.
  • JK: Hey Princess, is everything okay? You should have been here an hour ago and we all know you hate being late.
  • Me: I’m fine. I got held up but I’m on my way. I’ll be there in about ten minutes.
  • JK: Okay princess.
  • Me: How many times do I have to tell you that Jungkook! I don’t want you using that.
  • JK: Too bad! Princess haha.
  • I frowned as I put my phone away. ‘Aish that kid!’ I mumbled to myself just as Ahjussi came with a box in his hand.
  • ‘Here you go Misun-ah,’ he said. I gave a slight bow as I took the cake. ‘Come again soon,’ he said.
  • ‘I will Ahjussi,’ I said. ‘Thanks once again,’ I said before I hurried out of the shop and to the car. I drove quickly towards our new home and pulled into the parking lot.
  • I got out of the car and grabbed the cake. I locked the car and hurried towards the elevator. The doors finally opened and I pressed the button. I took a deep breath as I made my way to the roof top where the gathering was happening. Even from here I could smell the delicious smell of food.
  • The doors finally opened and I stepped out. ‘Ahh here she is,’ Taehyung commented.
  • ‘Finally, you’re—what the hell happened to you?’ Jungkook asked, his smile disappearing and transforming into a worried look.
